Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does this apply to contractors?

No, this only applies to direct employees.  If you have contractors, they would need to be converted to employment prior to June 30th.

  • What is Nationally Recognised Training?

A recognised qualification is a course that is recognised and taught to the same standard Australia wide.  Workplace training can be delivered at a Nationally recognised level, as if your team were to do a TAFE course, however with existing experience, on the job practical learning and actual trainer led training, can be completed with a minimal loss to productivity.

Nationally recognised courses are those that are VET Accredited by ASQA, the Australian Skills Quality Authority. This means a nationally recognised qualification is the same, regardless of where the student studies.  This provides your business with a guarantee that the qualification listed on someone's resume is quality assured. A recognised qualification will be valuable (and recognised) anywhere within Australia.

  • What does training entail?

There are numerous training courses available, all of which will provide the same learning outcome, a Nationally Recognised Qualification, as if a participant were to visit TAFE one day a week. The core difference is in the delivery, most courses are completed over a 12 month period with just one 2-3hr session per month.

  • Who can be a trainee?

    Who can be a trainee?

There is a common misconception around who is eligible for a traineeship. Any adult worker in any position of a company can be a trainee regardless of previous qualifications. There are a huge number of effective courses that can benefit almost anyone in their role.

  • Who does the training?

We help you engage an external training ogranisation who we feel is most suited to your internal operations and learning requirements.

The training can be in person or if you have less than 5 people will be online self directed.

  • Are there any costs?

There are NO UPFRONT costs to you as a business or the employees, this is fully funded.*

There is a productivity loss of 25-30 hours per employee over a 12 month period (10x 2.5-3 hour) training sessions

There maybe a small enrollment fee depending on your location however this is minimal relative to the available funding.

  • What are the benefits to the employee?

Your employee will attain a Nationally Recognised Qualification and will have the opportunity to learn more through higher certificates upon completion.

They will also be registered as a STUDENT and as such will have access to student concession cards for half price travel, movie tickets, sporting events, discounts at Apple, Spotify and more!

  • Why haven't I heard of this?

Whilst the BAC Subsidy has been immensely successful, it has received little press coverage and mostly large businesses like Woolworths and McDonalds have taken advantage of it.  Our role is in helping SME's access these types of programs.

  • Why does this program exist?

The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC) is a Government wage subsidy incentive. It is Not just for traditional apprentices or young people. It allows for experienced and those with qualifications to also participate.  The program was part of the COVID Response program however has been extended to June 30th this year.

  • How much time will the training take?

We understand that workplace training can be  a burden on company time, so we work with you and the training providers to ensure the training is completed as efficiently and quickly as possible.

Unlike a TAFE course, where staff would visit TAFE one day a week for 2-4 years, we work with training providers who can provide a mixture of on the job learning and take into consideration practical experience.

Many of our clients have training completed within a monthly 2-3 hour training session for 12-18 months.

Please note, there are many variations to the training so speak with our team for more information.

What is the support to employers?

Any business that engages an Australian apprentice or trainee between 5 October 2020 and 30 June 2022 may be eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of the wages paid to this employee for a 12-month period. The 12 month period commences from the start date of the training contract and is paid at a maximum of $7,000 per quarter (up to $28,000 over 12 months). This support is called the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC) wage subsidy.

In addition, eligible employers in receipt of the BAC wage subsidy may have support extended for the second and third year of an apprenticeship/traineeship through the new Completing Apprenticeship Commencements (CAC) wage subsidy. Please note, the CAC wage subsidy will only apply to apprenticeships/traineeships where the qualification is over 12 months in duration.

In the second year, eligible employers will receive a wage subsidy of 10 per cent of wages paid to an eligible apprentice or trainee, to a maximum of $1,500 per quarter (up to $6,000 over 12 months). In the third year, eligible employers will also receive a wage subsidy of 5 per cent of wages paid to an eligible apprentice or trainee, to a maximum of $750 per quarter (up to $3,000 over 12 months).

There is no limit on the number of eligible apprentices and trainees your business can employ.
